How Small Is A



A micron (µm) is equal to one millionth of a meter. There are 25,400 microns in one inch, which means a sheet of paper is about 215,900 microns wide. A human hair is between 50 to 100 microns in diameter. Approximately 400 microns will fit inside the period at the end of this sentence. The smallest thing that can be seen with the naked eye is about 10 microns.   A millisecond is a thousandth of a second. 1 millisecond is to 1 second as 1 second is to 16.67 minutes. A hummingbird's wing flap takes between 5 to 80 milliseconds. It takes 300 to 400 milliseconds for a human eye to blink.


Small Part Assembly

We insert a 140-micron wire into a 216-micron hole every 250-milliseconds. The wire is about the size of a human hair and we insert 4 of them every second. We also insert 1 micro fastener every 1.5 seconds with an accuracy of +/- 50 microns.

Excise & Attach

We detach parts with 10-micron accuracy, apply two 150-micron adhesive dots with 20-micron accuracy, then assemble and bond the part to a wafer in just 1.5 seconds with 1.5-micron placement accuracy. That's an accuracy undetectable to the human eye.

Inspection & Metrology

We detect and measure laser-cut features on both sides of a wafer with less than 1-micron of accuracy. We also perform cosmetic and dimensional inspections, achieving 2-micron fixture repeatability at less than 1-second per measurement and better than 2-micron accuracy.

We dispense a 400-micron glue dot with 20-micron repeatability at 150-milliseconds per placement. The glue dot is the size of an average period in a sentence and we place two of them in the time it takes to blink your eyes.
